The Adoption of Decentralized Courier Networks for Government Contracts and Administrative Uses

An article curated by Watson Lewis-Rodriguez, from Pigeon DAO.
Pigeon DAO is helping pave the way to establishing Decentralized Courier Protocol (DCPs) for individuals, enterprises, movements and agencies around the world to become fully accountable for their actions and choices. DCPs are a viable use case for technological development in ensuring that governments provide authentic and publicly accessible filings and transactions between agencies and other governments. Pigeon DAO is hoping to establish a social movement and project that encourages organizations and governments to be accountable in their transactions and thus be more cost efficient, this may be deemed negative by political parties who choose to be discreet with spending, however it opens a gateway to a transparent government that thus establishes true authenticity and a new standard for legislative actions and bills.
Decentralized Courier Protocol is a newly created pillar to help reaffirm a progressively decentralized society, they are Blockchains built with the intent to enable couriers in a given network and protocol the freedom and opportunities to pursue their entrepreneurial spirit while enabling them more control and freedom of their deliveries. DCPs are on chain smart contracts paired with oracles and chainlinks that help fulfill and finalize every day deliveries, however agreeing to a bilateral contract using Web3 technology, couriers and participants are both held responsible for ensuring they are authentic and honest in their transaction, while enabling both more freedom and opportunities to maintain ownership of their wallets and identities. This article will directly help teach and educate organizations and government agencies around the world to consider a new approach to helping retain trust by their customers and citizens.
The United States Postal Service is core and foundational to the United States transportation of packages and essential items throughout the entirety of the nation, and although it is operating to ensure every American has access to proper means of deliveries, it still faces large deficits and is an unsustainable agency, operating annually at around a $4 billion loss, or better considered, faces unpaid obligations of $63 billion in debt. This agency is essential for the well being of the citizens in the United States and helps operate and commence trade throughout the entire world by providing the opportunities for the individuals to trade their commerce and sell goods. However, the existing infrastructure, warehouses, and employment is unsustainable for the US taxpayers through time and will continue to cost Americans much more than the usefulness of the service itself if it is not able to maintain a self-sustaining operative model. Alongside losing billions annually in their balance statements, they still face another large loss, the loss of macro processed deliveries and the use of warehouses to mass deliver packages. Large warehouses and facilities are again, core and foundational to large scale deliveries, however this can be ineffective for prioritized mail and invaluable packages. USPS has recorded a $450+ million loss in 2022 in wrongful package tracking and wrongful deliveries. This system is inefficient and unsustainable, both to the government agency, and the individuals needing a delivery service they can truly rely on. DCP’s are a direct potential solution to help alleviate, and minimize the problem by providing the medicine required to help enable individuals around the United States, alongside countries and nations its trading and exchanging large scale commerce with. Although DCP’s may not be able to directly facilitate warehouses and extreme infrastructure required for large scale trades to occur, it is still a direct solution to peers and individuals to sustainably trade and deliver packages.
Pigeon DAO seeks to help collaborate and share comprehensive ideas and technology with developers to enable permissioned deliveries for government agencies, like the USPS, to reliably deliver and fulfill transactions while enabling entrepreneurship and free trade.
The beauty of DCP’s are considered countless for developers and those who envision practically building layer 2 protocols and comprehensive code that enables this form of entrepreneurship and individualist freedom in open market trade, and a few examples provided may help consider the Web3 DCP approach:
Firstly, Direct agreement for fulfillment — By directly enabling couriers and participants to agree on package deliveries without the need for a middleman service to manage and track the service, freedom to open market trade and open market prices enable natural market competition to occur and thus help couriers earn a meaningful wage while taking control of their future. For the use of Federal Agencies and Government Contracts, CDL Truckers and Hotshotters receive the opportunity to be accountable for their deliveries and help drivers provide a sustainable income by representing themselves professionally with inevitable truth and a historical backlog of deliveries.
Participants using DCP’s are also able to use permissioned couriers for a niche delivery model, whether it is requiring a specific form of courier that already has the legal requirements and pre-existing resumes and portfolio of on chain deliveries, participants can request for skilled and tailored services that they can accurately rely on. Whether that is for internal use inside agencies to share and distribute important documents or agreements, there can be a cost reduction by building a responsible portfolio of couriers that act as periodic contracts for the agency rather than an in-house delivery driver earning a salary.
Transparency in deliveries — Although this concept is not new and has been heavily used in blockchain technology, there still lacks transparency in direct deliveries, you may still be able to view your package and view the live movement of your goods, however, agencies fulfilling large scale material deliveries privatize important information that people in the US should be able to have public records of. By enabling and pushing for the building of blockchain architecture in government deliveries, people are able to truly rely and count on open deliveries in dire times: whether that is to proving to voters that they are legitimately delivering goods during black swan crises around the US, and the world, or to be able to prove that enterprises and lobbying companies are genuinely helping areas in need during dire times, like tsunamis or hurricanes, governments can prove that they are directly funding and providing the resources required to save and protect lives.
Secondly, The transparency in deliveries go far beyond the accountability for governments, but also the transparency for drivers to fulfill their duties to help others in the United States by contracting and fulfilling essential deliveries, drivers are able to openly charge correct rates and fees needed to ensure a timely and prompt service to help save lives. The benefit for both the government and courier however with this consideration is that they can build an archive of completed deliveries and completed fulfillment and help establish trust in everyday workers, and help accelerate direct improvement of citizens’ lives.
Governments beyond the United States face several accountability issues, whether that is for expanding/developing countries that need to reaffirm trust and establish sustainable delivery models for their country/region, or to provide job opportunities for subcontracts around, they can greatly ensure deliveries are high quality and reliably delivered, which can directly greatly increase the standard of lives for several nations that face extreme supply chain and logistic issues. Countries in South America can greatly benefit through the adoption of DCP’s by enabling entrepreneurship for their citizens and thus create complete individual control of their wallets, and what they choose to receive and deliver, whether that is essential food that is being hoarded and limited, or occasional items that help improve people’s quality of life.
There still are potential challenges Web3 DCP’s face, for instance, the technical challenges of spoofing decentralized GPS data and provide fraudulent trade in temporary created blockchains, however infrastructure like the Helium Network and the use of Trackpac delivery nodes may provide reassurance and a layer of protection, as well as other protocols and services like FleetOnRoute, and the XYO Geospatial Network. There is still limited activity and engagement in developer communities that still make it tough to collaborate and connect concepts and ideas to ensure a DCP built society. Another issue is the regulatory challenges that most countries are facing, and the government bills and legislation that questions the legitimacy of bilateral smart contracts, however, by being responsible and Federally compliant, can be a good consideration for ensuring the adoption of Decentralized Courier Protocols.
Pigeon DAO hopes to enlighten individuals around the world far beyond the United States by teaching and educating youths, entrepreneurs and developers the freedom to build and commence trade using DCP’s and thus give individuals greater control and responsibility over their public wallets. This was an overview as to how DCP’s can provide opportunities for the government to lower costs and thus build a sustainable delivery model without excruciating warehouse infrastructure costs while requesting permissioned couriers for outsourcing deliveries.
